Who likes mornings?
I swear I was always a morning person until about a year ago. I don't know if it changed with aging or what. I love my bed. I love sleeping, I love snuggling. The cold outside world has nothing on my safe, warm bed. Pair that up with my love of being a night owl and you have poison for productivity. Late nights do not make for early mornings.
Sleeping in is great but if you want to be productive, you have to start some where. Sadly, I chose morning time. I could be productive at night but I like my nights to be my 'me time' and I don't want to make a bunch of noise at night. Now mornings are still me time too, just different.
Everyone will choose different times to be up. I can't tell you getting up at 5 am is the best plan for you. Granted, I won't have to personally deal with the ramifications of you actually doing it, so I COULD say whatever I wanted but it's just something you have to figure out for yourself. Figure out what you want to accomplish before your out-the-door time. Get up early one morning and just see how long it takes you to get that list done. Adjust from there.
I get up between 5-6 am, naturally. I'll talk more about that in a later blog but I do not deal well with being unnaturally woke up unless by a person or pet in need. Waking up to a sick someone still isn't the ideal way of waking up but it's better than an alarm clock. I prefer training myself to just 'wake up' at the time I need to be up. So I wake up, get a quick stretch in to get myself ready to move and hopefully avoid being sore and walking like a zombie from just being old and creaky. If I workout hard core the day before, expect longer stretching (I stretch morning and night). I drink at least three cups of water. Some days it will just be plain ole water. Some days I'll add some lemon. Some days I'll be prepared and make my twilight lemonade detox for the morning. Drinking water is a GREAT way to get your metabolism going! I'll take any supplements that I need to on an empty stomach now also.
I avoid my phone for as long as I can. I generally try to keep my phone on Do Not Disturb until 9am and at least three feet away from my bed. As interesting as my phone is, real life has it's perks too. Plus I want my skin care on before I expose my skin to the light from my phone, which is under a lot of criticism at the moment.
Then I make coffee, not usually for me but for the Smart Guy. I don't drink caffeine really and I would like to keep it that way. If you find you need more and more, try cutting it out for a while. I promise your human body will do something, not saying what exactly but something. Caffeine is a drug... remember that.
Anyway, not daily does Smart Guy drink coffee so not daily do I make it. I get lunches made for Smart Guy and myself. Usually we try to get Shorts, Pants and Pantaloons (The rest of the Pants Family) lunches made the night before. Feed the Smart Pups their breakfasts too. After Smart Guy is off, I'll make me some tea. Some days I like warm chamomile tea, some days I crave a cup of kombucha with frozen fruit. Kombucha has just enough caffeine for those days I just want it. Some days I'll just stick to water if my skin is feeling a bit dehydrated or ya know I just don't freaking want it. Geez hahaha!
Next, I'll take a bit of time to go over my journal. I don't create or add right now (because I would want to do ONLY THAT all day), just checking in on the day to make sure I don't forget anything. I check morning and night so it's all fresh on my mind. Planning blog posts, Pants Family plans, appointments, goals, etc. If it's a quick check or quiet week, I'll do some social media on my phone. Just a bit. I really shouldn’t and honestly avoid it at all costs. Best to limit my time online as much as possible.
Cleaning time. No one mentions this but it is important to start the day and end the day with a clean, clutter free home. At least it is for me. I’m an anxious person, messes and clutter don’t go well with that. I just organize, start laundry, start or set out dinner, make beds, swish and swipe, etc. I usually like to load up the diffusers with energizing and awaking essential oil blends I make myself. Always a hit with the fam.
SKIN CARE TIME! I promise a whole blog post here on my morning and night time routines. I love my multi step skin care! I just love the feeling of waking the skin up and protecting it through the day! I'll do my makeup now too, if I wear any, which I make myself and is still great for my skin! Even if I have a day off, I still do this morning and night. Just to get motivated and keep my skin looking fly. Mornings mean SUNSCREEN ALSO! My skin care steps include sunscreen. My makeup is made with titanium dioxide and zinc dioxide but I look at whatever I'm wearing and cover anything showing with the sunscreen I make for my body. Even on rainy days. UV rays don't care about a few clouds.
I throughly enjoy my skin care time, it's what I look forward to the MOST.
Then breakfast. Not gonna lie, some days I'll skip it. Horrible, I know. I love a nice hot bowl of Malt o Meal or oatmeal though! Generally I don't take any vitamins with morning meal, I have some at lunch and some at dinner though. If I have time, I make a green juice or soy free vegan protein shake before I get my go on.
Then I pack up snacks if we are going to practice or appointments later, grabbing phone chargers and GO GO GO! If I get time to get on my phone and social media after that, cool. If I don't, cool.
And that's that. My morning folks!
I hope in some way this helps inspire you to get productive and be that morning person we all hate but really? We are in awe.
Start your day in your own way,
