Tea time is one of my favorite times. I'm pretty caffeine sensitive, as I don't drink soda or much of any caffeine source on a regular basis. I actually hate soda/pop with a passion.
So, if I want to indulge in a coffee one morning, I have to actually acclimate my body back into caffeine mode. Too much caffeine on a regular basis and your body can actually become dependent on it. Just like any drug, the more you are exposed, the more of that substance you need to feel an effect. I hear people say all the time caffeine doesn't effect them... that's scary. How do I reintroduce caffeine for a once in a while splurge? Caffeinated Tea.
Tea seems to have just the right amount of caffeine for my body to say 'Okay, I can handle this.'. After a few days of Tea, I can usually hop into coffee with no issues, as long as I drink the right amount of water with it. That's just me though.
I don't just love tea for the caffeine. Herbal teas have been such a wonderful tool in my life. Some teas I have associated with relaxation and sleep, thus I feel as if they help with that. Some are fun to play with and taste amazing. I have plenty of my own blends of Tea but when I got this package from The Republic of Tea, I was so excited to try them out! Best part? They offer zero waste canisters! Score!
Below are the links to my blog recipes on each tea (minus the green tea and honey, which I passed on to a non-vegan friend). They are so fun! Why just drink tea when you can CREATE with it?!
Please post a pic on Instagram with the #

Tea Time with The Smart Girl in Pants, anyone?
The Smart Girl in Pants
Oh bubble tea... it's just so FUN to drink! Really busts my bubble (all the pun intended) that around where I live, people ONLY serve bubble tea in premix, milk infested drinks. Yuck. No thank you. It was so painful just ordering sweet tea with boba, they couldn't understand why in the world I would want that. People, come on.
So, making my OWN.
I am not a fan of summer but I do love vacations and fresh produce right from my own local farmers. I really appreciate a farmer that knows what they are doing, grows with passion and responsibility. I have a few at my local farmers market that I am happy to call friends! I swear, it's just not because of the produce game! It's because they are genuinely passionate people who really are amazing humans!
For this recipe, I used a golden honeydew. Oh honeydew. It's the best thing ever. Team that up with The Republic of Teas Organic Lean Green SuperGreen Tea and yesssss. Perfection.
Honey Dew Green Tea Bubble Tea (Vegan)
-1/4 cup honeydew melon, sliced, rind removed and seeded
- 1 cup of Organic Lean Green SuperGreen Tea
- 1Tbsp dried stevia leaf powder (or any sweetener like sugar)
- Boba Tapioca pearls (I chose green!)
-1/2 ice or frozen almond milk
Heat your cup water for tea and add boba pearls. Allow to sit for at least 5 minutes or until soft. Pour tea into blender with all your ingredients and blend! Add boba back into your tea and enjoy!
I LOVED THIS ONE. This tea is the bomb! I will be making this one again for sure! Freezing some honeydew now so I can enjoy this for a long time!
Honey, oh hell ya I dew.

I am a SUCKER for smoothie bowls! They are so pretty and fun to eat! It's like a smoothie dessert!
This post is brought to you by The Republic of Teas, who sent me several teas to test out! Check my blog for the review of the teas!
Smoothie bowls are so easy to make, literally a smoothie with goodies on top!
Ginger Peach and Apple Smoothie Bowl
- 1/2 Cup of Ginger Peach Tea
- 1/2 an apple, cubed
-1/2 cup frozen Peach slices
- Dash of almond milk (or another dairy-free alternative), frozen or not.
END LESS OPTIONS. I used peaches, cinnamon and oats but you can add anything you like! Easy peesy, custom yum!
That's it! Blend it up in a food processor or blender, pour into your bowl and top! This exact one tasted like apple pie!
Smoothie bowls for the win!

I am generally skeptical about headache/migraine remedies. One bad one and I was over trying to find help. Ya feel me? Ya ya, some EO can provide decent temporary relief. I was looking for something more long lasting, without much hope.
That's until Migraine Magick decided to prove their product really was Magick! This company found here, www.migrainemagick.com, provided this product for free in exchange for a 100% honest Smart Girl review!
That is where this beauty comes in!
I was so so so happy to, first thing, hold onto a solid glass bottle. It's sturdy. The sprayer top is a fine, fine mist. It was well packaged with minimal plastics, which I appreciate a lot.
As for how well it performed?
This couldn't have come at a more perfect time. A HUGE storm was rolling in as I opened this and I had a HORRIBLE headache starting. I don't just get headaches, I get full on migraines if I don't nip it in the bud.
I really tested this with my whole faith, I didn't take a single medication and made it through the front without a major issue.
The beginning of my migraines start on the left or right side of my head and the back. Slowly rolling into all over pain, nausea and sensitivity to light of any kind. Talk about annoying. I can't just stop my day for anything! Being a busy Smart Girl in Pants!
I first did an allergy test, as everyone should. I already know I'm not allergic to any of the ingredients lists but always be careful. Ask your doctor before using. Also do not discontinue any medication without telling your physician first!
After my allergy test came out in Migraine Magicks favor, I sprayed onto my hands and pat this formula onto my hands and gently pat onto my 'headache zones'. I don't mind sprays but ya know. Then went ahead and jumped into spraying!
I personally like patting it onto my zones better. It seems to use less product and the feeling of this is AMAZING. My headache almost went completely away immediately. Not that I'm shocked, the ingredients are similar to other products I have used and experienced temporary relief. Will it pass the full blown storm migraine test?
I'm addicted to spraying this. I'll be completely honest. Not only did it feel amazing for my headache BUT it felt great over my skin!
Half the testing time I was in full faced makeup. I can say this product did NOT effect my fully set makeup. Something that can not be said about creams, oils or lotions. Y'all know what happens when you add lotion or oil on top of makeup, right? If not, I'll just tell you it's not pretty.
I love that this has magnesium oil! One of my favorite things for any issue I have! I love the tingle from it and knowing that tingle means benefits.
I love the oils in this! I feel like they used the best choices and it's not too scented. Ya know when you get a product and it's SO scented? Well, that doesn't always help migraines, at least in my case. I really don't like nutmeg when I have a headache, weird I know.
I also am in love with the crystal essences and frequencies included in this blend. This, imo, sets this product far ahead of the other headache/migraine products. I truly love crystals and I adore the different energies. I can say this is by far why I am so hooked on using it often!
I also love that I CAN use it often and that it worked to keep me comfortable all night!
what we all want to know...
the Smart Pants Review!
I officially give this 5/5 👖 👖 👖 👖 👖
This is a joy to use! I love the light scent, I love the finish on top of makeup. I love that nothing in it clogs my pores. I love the vibe I get from it. I love the bottle!
I will be buying this again and again!
Thank you so much, Migraine Magick for a one of a kind product! You have saved me from the storm!
Ask your doctor and try it yourself!

Ah the great utensil debate...
amongst us the zero waste community the question continues. Wood or stainless steel?
Let's just start by saying either are infinitely superior for the environment than disposable plastic utensils. So if you prefer or have one or the other, great job! You are helping create less waste and are a winner in my book.
It does raise the question though, which of the zero Waste options actually creates less waste? Which is better in the long run?
That is actually a very difficult question to answer. In the end it will all come down to what you prefer.
Stainless Steal, there are a lot of stainless steel zero waste items. From bento lunch boxes to chopsticks. All of our water bottles are stainless steel and let me tell ya! After drinking from reusable plastic bottles my whole life, this is a huge change in water taste! I didn't think it would make a difference but it did! At least to my taste buds!
Stainless steel is made from some rather common minerals found in the Earth like nickel and iron ore. Then these minerals are heated, put through several processes such as multiple forming processes, cleansing residue, shaping and finishing. That's a lot of processes involving a lot of minerals and chemicals.*
Despite all of that, stainless steel creates a very sturdy product in the end. Eventually, even stainless steel will decompose but at a very slow rate. Stainless steel can be recycled!
To keep stainless steel in tip top shape, avoid leaving in contact with moisture for too long. It's very rust resistant but that doesn't mean you get to mistreat it entirely.
I have very little success stories with glass utensils (as you will notice, none as shown above). Everyone of them I get is marked for death by breakage shortly after I get it. I had a beautiful all glass tea set... until fate decided it was no longer meant to be.
I love glass containers though! I reuse every single glass jar that comes into our house. For drinking, food and general storage.
Most think glass is sand, while that is partially true that's not all. Modern glass has many chemicals used to produce strong, clear glass jars and utensils we all love. Pyrex is often used for measuring cups, for instance. There is a melting process, forming, finishing and cleaning process to making glass things.
Glass is generally very hygienic and sanitary to use but breaks very easily. It is not prone to leeching or rust. Once broken, it's generally not salvaged. Glass can be recycled!
To keep your glass items in tip top shape, be sure to cleanse them well and keep from dropping or applying force enough to break them.
Now for the wooden utensils. Wooden utensils make me think of wood elves or wild folk. Idk why. Mostly the spoons. You can find wooden spoons everywhere almost. Even on some disposable ice cream containers (you know, the little bitty tiny ones that aren't really spoons?). How much does it take to create those?
First, it takes the obvious, wood. The type of wood matters more than you think! In one article, it actually says that only 1/3 of the usable wood from a tree could be used to make chopsticks. Imagine the same could be said for wooden anything. That means a lot of trees will be cut down for these utensils.**
Then you have to consider the machinery to shape them, finish them and package them. Substantially less processing than stainless steel.
Another thing to take into account is wood is not a long lasting option. No matter what wood it is, at some point it will degrade faster than stainless steal. That means over time it will get cracks, splits and microscopic pores that will hold bacteria.
So, in the end it's all what you think is a better choice. Do you prefer something that is less processed but uses trees? Or do you prefer a more complex process but yields a long term option?
I love all the above! As long as it's not plastic, I'm all about that life!
What do you use?
The Smart Girl in Pants
If you have not heard about safety razors you are either brand new to zero waste, not into zero waste or live under a rock. Which to be fair is about as zero waste as you can get!
The very first thing I saw when searching Zero Waste was about these types of razors. Stainless steel, old fashioned. They look scary and sound even more so. By the way some people write/talk about them, you expect trouble. The stories I heard in real life, down right scary.
But that price though! You simply can not beat the price of refill razor blades VS another whole new razor or cartridge. Around the price of $10 will get you 50-100 double sided blades. The average user of these razors say their blades last them about a month. You do the math, that's a life of shaving.
Is it worth it though? Is it easy to use? Does it beat waxing or epilation device? Really is it a step back?
I was curious to say the least. After a LOT of research and price comparing, I went with the Parker 29L long handled safety razor, double edged. It was around $27 with free shipping and 5 free razors. Figured that was a good enough price to test it out and see if the stories were really that bad.
When I say horror stories, I mean bad. Rusty razors no matter what people did, ingrown hairs like mad. Others online said they were great, easy to clean and long lasting.
Here's to my skin folks.
My first time testing it, I was very wary. I went slow AF and with the direction hair growth. Eh. It was okay. Nothing to write home or the inter web about but meh. Cool, at least it worked... on a leg. Don't get me wrong, I have muscular legs with hard lumps and bone to work around but let's just say I was taking the test to the ultimate level.
So, when people say don't apply pressure, I'm almost 99% sure they say that because it's so easy to slip in the wrong direction. Aka side ways, which would most definitely lead to a cut. I can tell you I didn't cut myself one time during this test. Not once. And I cut myself on safety SCISSORS. The odds were stacked against me.
I stopped paying attention to going slow, because I do that. I went against grain and ya, got a bit haphazard with it. Fight me. Smoothed shave I have ever had. Not saying you should do what I do, remember the safety scissors? This could be a fluke. Don't be like me. Take it slow at least.
I shaved with homemade clay soap first, worked perfect. Then, I tried shaving with my shaving oil blend, worked well but MESSY TO CLEAN. I swear getting the oil off that stainless steel was as painful as never ending finger prints on stainless steel appliances. Imo, the oil wasn't necessary. The soap and water alone were great. I think this would all depend on your soap as well. Find one that's nourishing not over drying.
Against the grain was seriously the closest shave I have ever had. Now, that being said. The angle is very important. Sometimes it felt like I was getting a great shave only to look and it missed some. It's all about the angle you have it at. Too much one way and it doesn't shave well. Too much another way and it gets a bit too close for comfort. You'll see, it's one of those thing you have to try it to understand. Not hard to get use to though!
I shaved it all. Everything a Smart Girl in Pants can shave. No issues. Shaved like a champ. Never got dull. I was shocked to say the least.
Clean up was a jerk though. Not cutting myself getting everything squeaky clean and dry was scary, but I had my drama Pants on that day.
My gripe of this product is the head of the razor twists off to separate the top and bottom and un-sandwich the blade. It did twist slightly when I was shaving but never enough to fall apart BUT it could give a bit of wiggle to the blade. Wiggle = possible cuts.
If I get another, I may look for one that the bottom of the handle twists to release the blade VS top.
To clean mid shave, I did untwist a bit, swish in some water and twist it back down firmly. I thought that would get it all! That's what we do with plastic cased razors, swish and bang them a bit. Nah, this still was messy when I took it apart at the end. So in that case, the twisty top was pretty handy to quick clean mid-shave.
1) I can definitely say I am happy I got a long handle. Short would be okay, maybe even better in SOME AREAS of private matters.
2) All the horror stories were a bit of hype to me now that I have done it. Rust? Yup, that will happen to ANY metal in the shower. Clean it. This is much easier to clean than a cartridge won't come apart on a disposable. Definitely go slow and test these yourself and don't get hurt. I'm a blogger, not a baby sitter. Not my fault if you act a fool and get hurt. Warned.
3) Is it better than a disposable razor? Yassssssss. I won't be buying those ever again. Without a doubt better than disposable.
4) Better than waxing or other root hair removal? Depends on the person I guess. I have an epilator, it's okay. Better than waxing (which I have not found a great vegan wax. I would love to try one.). Epilation takes soooo long to do. Results last longer with root removal but is it worth me wasting an hour of my life? Hell no. I'll stick to the razor and shave when I damn well please, thanks. I could see root removal if I know I'll be on vacation and know I can't bring my razor (they sell the blades at Walmart though!). With root removal, I always get ingrown hairs. No matter what. With this? No irritation or bumps.
I did use a clay soap and clay tea tree lotion, both which I make so that helps in preventing ingrown hairs.
5) Worth it or step back? Worth it. If you shave, give this a go. I will not be going back to expensive but cheaply made plastic razors any day, ever. I'd rather not shave at all.
I say give it a shot. Don't go too cheap on the purchase, though. I read that some razors feel light and don't hold up. In my experience now over a few weeks, the added weight of the razor it's self helps a lot.
Would I pay $70+ for a safety razor? Maybe if it was made of rose gold, shaped like fox (my favorite animal) and cured all my ailments. If it shaved for me, I would pay even more. Do your research, read reviews and listen to your gut. I won't say buy the one I have but I admit, I am in love. I can't wait for The Smart Guy to finally make our razor stand... it's on the honey-please-do list that's about as long as my arm.
So that's that. Be smart about these. They are extremely sharp and don't be careless. Really. These are an amazing tool but treat it like a tool not a toy. Be careful, feel it out and clean it! Cleaning it is kinda a pain but think about how GROSS the other razors are? Even mid-shave quick rinse wasn't enough to get this razor totally clean. There is NO WAY to get in every nook of those razors. That thought alone...
All that bacteria was definitely why I always got ingrown hairs with plastic razors, and I used a new one every other day.
If you don't shave and don't want to shave, cool. Idk why you are here but how ya doing, buddy? Do your thing. Not shaving is literally as zero waste as you can get and I'm totally all about your freedom to do you. Not shaving isn't gross. It's not dirty and it's not unsanitary in any way. Shaving can actually lead to irritated skin, cuts and entry ways for bad bacteria to get into our bodies.
For the non-shavers, please don't hate or superior yourselves onto those of us that shave... no matter if we are irregular shavers or every day, sleek as a seal's butt shavers. Some people have jobs where shaving is necessary to a business like esthetic. Judging people for shaving is just as silly as judging someone for not shaving. Why do I shave? Because I do. I don't need to have or give any other reason!
In the end, People like what they like. We all have our reasons why we like something or don't. If you have any opinion on hair or no hair, leave it below and why! Let's just be cool.
I give these a 5/5 Pants.
I didn't count off for the twist head bit because I have gotten used to it and use it to my advantage. Much as I have with life in general. Boom, life, that's right.
Less hair don't care,
The Smart Girl in Pants
I have recently gotten on a HUGE smoothie kick. It really does help me start my day better and keeps me feeling full until dinner! I love all things cold, DELISH so it makes me happy.
My only gripe is the plastic jar... don't get me wrong, I reused it. It is big so it's perfect for loads of things but I hate that I purchased a thing in plastic and promoted plastic production.
I LOVE adding veggies in my smoothies. I HATE when people day 'that's gross' without 1) ever trying it or 2) just trying one and judging them all. It's an EASY and PAINFREE (unless veggies give you pain) way to get tons of vitamins and minerals in a yummy way! Anyone can accidentally make a smoothie taste like a plate of salad but once you find that PERFECT blend, you will be so happy you did!
I have tried SEVERAL Green powder supplements and each was good. Expensive but had a great taste. Cheap but kinda chalky. Medium priced and weird flavor.
I happened upon this one, Super Greens, last night doing some shopping (at Walmart, aka easy to find for most of us) and first thing this morning busted into it!!
I liked that it has organic greens, the powder is fine and the flavor is basic. Why would I like that? Who wants fake lemon flavor or that chemical sugary taste when you want to make a smoothie? Not I!
So first things first, I had some kale and spinach I NEEDED TO USE ASAP. Other than loading up with my dinner, I had other plans! Blend it and freeze it! Easy to pop into my next 12 smoothies (12 ice cube slots). I added this Super Green as well. Just blended with some water and froze! Lasts for months in a freezer bag (idk how much longer because I go through it quick!).
Now the real taste test! I used the left overs to make myself a Pineapple, mango, papaya smoothie with this lovely spinach/kale/super greens combo. LOVE IT. Sadly I drank it so fast I didn't get pictures, that in itself is amazing. Most smoothies last me at least 45minutes to drink it all.
The basic flavor disappeared into my awesome fruit blend and I felt wonderful all day!
I have officially found another love-y product! Easy to get, reasonable price and decent but easy to improve/cover flavor. Plus? Check out all the goodies in there! I didn't even have to add my matcha powder! It's already in there! Brussel sprouts?! OMG can't even taste it.
I'm in love with how easy it is to find more natural things at the local stores! Makes my heart happy that healthy can be right at your finger tips!
Give it a shot I say! Check for allergies/calories/anything else of interest and with your doctor before making any huge changes in your diet.
Also, yes my Skinny Girl blender finally died. Not because of anything it did. I may or may not have accidentally killed it. It still has a place in my heart but I am now using Ninja Food processor and it does a great job as well!
4/5 Pants on this one, took 1 Pants off because... plastic. That being said the plastic used is a number 2. High- Density Polyethylene, no
marked health issues though many still list it as kinda safe (aka reuse with craft items, non-food items), can stand high heat and is recyclable.
If I could find this in glass they wouldn't be able to take my money fast enough.
Did someone say smoothie,

If you know me, you know our Smart Pants family includes The Smart Pups. They are our furry family members!
They are both rescues, I would dare to say they saved us more than we saved them.
Luna, the oldest, is the alpha. She is a borador (border collie and Labrador mix). Her Border Collie traits are very obvious. She helped Pants learn to walk for goodness sake! She even trained out other Smart Pup! If you can't find her, she's out checking the perimeter of our fenced yard, making sure no one gets in to her Smart Pants Family. Always on the look out. So serious.
Loki, the younger one, is by our best guess an American Pit Bull Terrir mix. He's the sweet one. He follows us around, especially the Smart Kids, to make sure they are safe. If you want snuggles, he's the one to go to. He's always got this big ole smile on his gorgeous face every time we come home! He also loves cars rides!
Like any pet owner, we worry about our pets. That's where the Poof Pet Tracker comes in!
I was sent this product for free for my full, honest review and I promise you that is what you will get. The ups and downs.
I was pleasently surprised when I opened the box. It looks and feels just like my Misfit Tracker! Do you have any idea how excited I was that my Luna and I could match? Ridiculously so. I didn't even pick the style or color! It was just an awesome surprise!
It comes with two style attachments:
A Holster case for the Pea
A Ring style case for the Pea
for dogs that do not like dangling things, I recommend the hostler.
It also comes with an app you must download to track your pets progress throughout the day. This includes activity and calories. It's also water proof!
So, time to test!
What was the Smart Pups opinions?
Luna took a while to warm up to the ring style attachment I chose. Once we switched it to the holster style, she just acted the same. Just like wearing her collar!
Loki loved it! He was prancing around like he was dressed to the nines! He loved the attention too (camera hog!!).
So my opinion?
1) I love the different wearing options. Luna did not like the ring attachment because it dangled. I could see how that would take away from her ever so serious duties of guarding us. But she didn't mind the holster one bit!
2) I love the style of the Pea itself! So cute, seriously I'm so excited we match. I just don't care, it's too adorable.
3) It's really accurate tracking the Smart Pups. Ends up Loki is much less active, ha.
4) 100% of the proceeds go to the Greatergoods.org charity! Come on! That's AMAZING.
5 out of 5 Pants!
I really appreciate how they thought of different pet preferences when they created the attachments. I love the modern style. I adore the ability to track The Smart Pups, even when I'm not home.
Even better? This isn't just for dogs! Cats and many other pets could use this!
I bet if my Smart Pups ever tore up anything (never have) I could probably figure out the exact moment it happened based on analysis of their activity levels. Just a theory but it would be fun to experiment!
I will be buying another so The Smart Pups won't have to share, I think Loki gets a bit sad when he doesn't have a turn with the Pea!
Snuggling Smart Pups,
The Smart Girl in Pants
It is not easy to find a unique ring. Or an eco-friendly option. We hear more and more about Blood Diamonds and other unfair ways of getting most precious stones. The amount of waste to extract and shape those is beyond my tolerance for something 'pretty'.
Secret Wood has made Rings that solved that issue for me.
The Smart Guy ordered me this ring,
and I have to say, mine is just gorgeous!
and I fell madly in love with it at first sight. It was stunning, something I had never seen anything like it. When I looked on the site, I realized there was never and will never be a ring like mine. Each ring is made custom for that order.
Customer service was amazing as well! Ready and quickly responding to any questions. Even when I emailed them about doing a blog about my experience, they were more than happy to help and responded in less than a day! That's something for such a busy company!
Things I loved most about this company are:
1) Real Wood Rings! Yes, with resin. I'm sure they buy resin in bulk and even if they didn't, think about all the Waste going to get stones from the Earth, shaped, delivered, shaped again, and then made into a ring. This is a far better option.
2) Customer service really made me feel like they cared about my personal experience. It means so much to me when a business finds people who truly make someone's experience amazing.
3) The presentation. My ring arrived in a wooden box filled with instructions for care and wood shavings. Mostly zero waste! I was shocked by their dedication to ALL the details.
4) The quality of the ring itself. It's tough, it can take a beating that many of my pieces wish they could stand up to. It's big enough for people to see, I get so many compliments! Yet light weight, so much so I forget I'm wearing it.
I was NOT paid for this blog. I really, honestly love these
So much so, I give them
5/5 Pants of the Smart Pants scale.
Truly a one of a kind piece and one of a kind experience.
I have two more I have on my wish list:
They are just SO STUNNING.
So give them a visit and tell them The Smart Girl in Pants sent you!
Unqiue to you,
